HOLLYWOOD A-LISTERS POWERLESS

Hollywood's A-list actors are not being hired as quickly with their movies failing at the box office and the unknowns raking in the cash.
Hollywood studios are giving less popular scripts a second look and the usual actors are not as eagerly being cast. Its not just the economy they are blaming its the statistics. Comedy movie The Hangover brought in $459 million at the box office with a bunch of unknown actors. Twilight raked in $384 million and made huge stars out of the cast, with New Moon expected to do the same. The A-list actors this year have not fared so well with Jim Carrey's A Christmas Carol only making $30 million but cost $175 million to produce. Adam Sandler, Will Ferrell and Eddie Murphy's latest films have flopped so the Hollywood heirachy is confused. In Hollywood there are stars (all men) who can produce a movie, star in a movie and turn a profit, but it seems those days are over. "The (major movie) machine didn't fly last summer, if you look at the movies and the names, they were not star-driven movies, they really weren't," said Peter Guber, chairman of Mandalay Entertainment and former head of Sony Pictures.
