Constance McMillan on Ellens show
Constance McMillan who has wanted to go to prom all her life approached her school principal and asked if she could bring her girlfriend as her date. The principal, surprise surprise said NO. A few weeks later Constance asked that same principal if she could wear a tuxedo because as a lesbian she feels better wearing a suit, he said NO and then he canceled the prom.
Now the whole school is against Constance when its the principal who is the bigot. Ellen had the 18 year old crusader on her show yesterday and gave her a $30,000 scholarship and also offered her a prom.
Constance said no to the prom because she wanted to go to her school prom with her GF as she had planned since she started high school.
Its 2010 and what is more worrying? The fact that the principal is a bigot? The fact that the students go against this young woman and not support her, making her the bad guy? Or is it that there are parents out there paying thousands in school fees to have their kids educated by bigots?
A hearing is scheduled Monday in federal court in Aberdeen on American Civil Liberties Union efforts to force the district to hold the prom.
